Just in case you hadn't heard, the dates for FINA-CAF AIRSHO 2007 in Midland have changed. Instead of Sept. 22-23, the AIRSHO will be Sept. 29-30.

… and that collides with The Gathering of P-51 Mustangs and Legends… what a shame…

happymeal,
Yes, it is a shame, but unavoidable. There was a sponsor conflict. A change had to be made and the weekend of Sept. 29 and 30 was the best choice, even with the conflict with the Gathering of Mustangs.

Bill,
You're correct. The show is usually in October, but it was changed this year to September in the hopes of having a better chance at a jet team for the CAF's 50th anniversary. Unfortunately, the gamble didn't work.

OK, A jet team can draw more crowd of regular folks, but a lot of people will sit outside the gate and not pay to watch them, I've seen it. I'm one of the old fasioned guys that doesn't look forward to a weekend of jet noise, where you can't talk to anyone and kids are crying cause their ears hurt. Merlins make music, and even Pratt & Whitney sounds like history to me. I have found folks really like to walk around the planes and talk to crew and pilots before and after the shows. Having constant noise can interfere with that. BKD was the best airshow for a warbird pilot and never had jets.

Bill, The CAF show had no choice but to change. The jet teams draw crowds and that makes a show profitable. We'll charge on with the show and hope for a great turn out anyway.

Jet shows draw crowds...rings familiar with the philosphy of the National Warplane Museum. Good luck, you only get one 50th Anniv. show. The prospect of seeing over 50 Mustangs in flight is a tough act to compete with...even 50 Mustangs on one field if you are not a Mustang fan is tough to compete with.

We should have had the Gathering at Midland in conjunction with the show. I think it would draw the crowds if marketed to the max.

Perhaps we could have the "Gathering of Twin Tails, Part Deux."

RATS!!!
Since we're gonna' have to pick one, it's gonna' have to be "Gathering". I kinda' feel we won't see another P-51 show like this ever again. There will, however, be another CAF-FINA show next year.
Too bad. :(

Mudge the disappointed

I hope CAF isn't gonna' siphon off too many Mustangs.

I think you're quite right in that there won't be a "Gathering" like this ever again. Looks like Flying Legends in July and the P-51D round-up in Sep for me at least!

Mudge the traveller

Were you at Legends last year? I noted a tall guy with a POF shirt at The Eagle in Cambridge on the Thursday prior to the show. Travelling with his wife! Well, here's to this year... :drink3:

Yep...that was us. Enjoying a Steak and Ale pie and a Fosters.
You actually could have seen us there each evening through Sunday.

So does this mean we can count "Red Nose" and "Gunfighter" out for the Mustang Gathering?
