Thanks for that Martin, interesting photo. Any idea which unit?

Fyi, it's presently marked as 'Straw Boss 2' on one side of the nose, 'Little Sandra' on the other. Photos from Watsonville fly-in, May 2006.

Thanks for the correction Mike !

it looks like an a/c based at Luke... of note are the very faded red bars in the national insigna.... even I needed some time to figure out that somethin just wasn't right.....

Thats very cool...Strawboss was the Mustang I shot the video from while flying around Hollister last year. Neat to see it in service.

Sweet! I lost my mustang virginity in 60V back in the early 90's.

Here's what she wore before her Strawboss scheme.

Image

Dan Martin and his wife in 5460V, with John Crocker in Jack Flaherty's Mustang circa 1974.

Nice photo Chris. Do you know who were the early members of this club? I seem to have both Martin and Crocker in that group.

Cool website you've got there. I liked the archive photos of the B-23 and A-26. I always love seeing photos of N747M in that blue/white scheme. By the way, is that Crocker's ex-Salvadorian Invader?

Gentlemen:

For your information, concerning the photograph of the F-51D 44-72192 in USAF markings, the photograph was taken while the aircraft was assigned to the 3595th Pilot Training Wing based at Nellis AFB, Nevada.

TJ, I don't know who else was in the club during it's "Dallas Doll" scheme days. I know in it's early days painted as Straw Boss- Earle Bradford and John Presta were also members.

The early days of the California Warbirds saw many current and past warbird enthusiasts come through its ranks: Dan Martin, John Crocker, Cecil Harp (P-38, Corsair, Mustang) , Ellsworth Getchell (Sea Fury) , Jim Orton (B-17 etc), Sam Korth (B-17, TBM etc), Randy Difani, Harold Kindsvater (109), Gary Harris (Corsair), John Herlihy, Gordon Plaskett, Dave Morss, Bill Montague (Yak, T-28, Bearcat), Bob Guilford and of course others not coming to immediate memory that have gone on to own other warbirds.......

Also, "Little Sandra" is the marking on the crew chief side accurately represented on the airplane.
