Why else would they put such a happy face on an aircraft of such deadly intent?

I can't read German so I can't tell you what the caption on the back says, but if any one here does I'll be happy to post the German caption.

Hey,

I took a little bit of German in highschool, or I can resort to an easier method of "Babblefishing" it. Post it, I'd love to try and figure it out.

Cheers,

David

I live in Germany - post it - I´ll see what I can do.

Trust me when I tell you that Babelfish and the German language is not a happy combination!

I'm sure I can translate it to English.

I can already tell what it says:

Das flugzeug spitten und koffen, also der schwarze Mann wrenchenturnen, bangengeschlagen, kursunfluchen und schoutenyellen...

Fade to Black...

Ok, so my German skills are weak.... and so it seems Bablefish's is too. Bablefish was unable to convert several words so what it came up with is below:

"The airplane spitten and koffen, thus the black man wrenchenturnen, fear for-struck, kursunfluchen and schoutenyellen..."

I imagine in better translation it means something like:

"The airplane was spitting and coughing, thus the man in black turned his wrench, struck with fear, cursing and swearing."

those are total guesses on the untranslated words though. Mennie, it's your go.

Cheers,

David

Sorry for the delay but here is the caption on the back ……………..

Der Fliegende Hafisch

Unser zild zeigt die “Schnauze” eines deutschen Sturzkampfbomber, die hier auf unserer Aufnahme eine ungeheure Achnlictkeit mit dem Rachen des gefurchteten Haifisches hat.

23-11-39 (or 11-23-39 for the Americans)

Translate away……………………….. :D

Here is what it says (give or take...!)

"The Flying Shark.

Our picture shows the "snout" of a German divebomber, that here in our photo, bears a disturbing similarity to the gullet of the much feared shark."

He´s not wrong is he! :D

cheers
James
