Anyone know if when the Colling's birds make their stop at the Frontier's of Flight Museum at Love Field in Dallas if we will be able to get up close and walk around them?

I'd like to take a 200-300 photos of Witchcraft and 909 to use for upcoming 1/12 scale builds. I'm planning on taking off one day during the week, but don't want to waste the time to drive up there if because it's at an active commerical airport that we wouldn't be able to get close to them.

We'll be pulling into Dallas March 15th and leaving March 21st. Should be a really busy stop, rides are booking fast.

Tell me more about this 1:12 scale?

There has been plenty of wishing on the 1:18 boards for a 4 engine bomber.

But that will just encourage the crazy's that will need a new hanger for their 1:18 B-36. :p :jackcook:

Will people have access to walk around the aircraft in Denton?

In regards to the 1:12 scale B-24. A company called Wingspan Models http://www.wingspanmodels.com/ as already produced a 1:6, 1:9, and 1:12 scale B-17 that is CAD drawn and is VERY scale. Their next project that they are working on now is a 1:12 and possibly a 1:9 scale B-24. I "think" it will be initially set up as a J model, but might include parts to convert to earlier models as well.

In case Jim Harley is too busy to respond ~ the "normal" drill is they have a ramp area cordoned off and for a small donation to tour the aircraft, you should be able to take as many pictures as you want.

I took these over at Hawthorne, CA last May. They should give you an idea of what to expect. Theses pics are " as shot" with out and cropping with a Canon D350 ( Rebel XT ? ). The file sizes are compressed for the web.

I don't mean to dampen the stop but...Last year in Dallas you could not get out to the aircraft without buying a ticket to the FOF Museum. Don't get me wrong it all goes to a good cause but if you are going to take whole family out to see the airplanes that makes the day more expensive.

When I have seen them at other stops the sponsor airport did not charge to get on the ramp.

All three aircraft will be on display at both Denton and Dallas for the dates that are on the schedule. I typed it onto the website once, so I will not repeat it here. At both locations there will be up close viewing of the aircraft as well as walk through tours of the interior. Dallas will most likely be busier than Denton (closer to the larger population base), but do not expect to be alone in Denton.

As for the gate donation it will be in place at both locations. Our normal gate donation (the case at Denton) is $10 for adults, and $5 for children. In Dallas we help to support the museum by splitting the "gate" donation with them. The museum is normally $8 for adults, and it increases to $12 for both the museum and the tour of the bombers. It is true that there is no option in Dallas to view the aircraft without at least paying to view the museum as well.

The main reason that we make stops at locations in partnership with museums is to try to raise awareness for the museum. The arrangement of the "gate" is a decision that is discussed and made on a case by case basis.

Just to add to Kens comments. The Frontiers of Flight Museum is a very worthwhile "to do" museum if you are in the area. They have worked very hard to provide the area with an educational center for aviation awareness.
