Glacier Girl

I saw in the most recent issue of Warbird Digest that it is now official that Glacier Girl has been sold to Rod Lewis in Texas and will soon be joining his Bearcat and Corsair. There is a blurb on teh contents page above a picture of her over the Nevada desert.

Of course this stuff only happens after I move out of the state.

mustangdriver...Just curious. Why would you have her stay in KY? It seems to me that they rarely flew her. Perhaps Mr. Lewis will bring her to a few more airshows than the KY folks. The CAF in Frederick, MD. told me that the KY owner wanted a small fortune just to bring her for a static display. (Yes, I fully understand how much money was/is tied up in her.)
Hopefully, Mr. Lewis will lean more toward bringing Glacier Girl to the public than having the public come to her.

On the subject of seeing Glacier Girl fly...Mrs. Mudge (the magnanimous) has given me the OK to attend the PoF airshow alone. (She knows that I don't like to go without her but she also knows how much I want to see 3 P-38's together.)
She's not willing to take the time off from school as state tests are being conducted at that time.

I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing 3 P-38's do a, ba--s to the wall, formation fly-by at about 500 ft. :shock:

The only reason I say that is becuase they were the ones that got her out of the ice.

She will be based in San Antonio. And unless she has been moved in the last couple of weeks, she is still in San Antonio.

Concerning who got GG out of the ice, there was a large group of investors and then the actual people who got GG out of the ice. I think the reason she went to KY and restored there, was that particular gentleman invested the most money during the last expedition.

At believe at this point, it would be very difficult to see any of Mr. Lewis' aircraft at SAT. They are all located in his private hangar. I think he is looking into doing some kind of museum so that they can be accessable to the public.

My understanding is GG is returning to Chino (if she has not already) to be prepared for her crossing to Europe and return. She is also supposed to be flying at the POF airshow on May 19-20.

My understanding is that it is.

I was just making trouble in the previous discussions as I already knew that Mr. Lewis had purchased GG.

According to Ed Shipley / Jim Beasley's 'Airshowbuzz.com' website, they are planning on a 'Heritage Flight' formation at Duxford of F-15, P-38 and P-51.

This has lead to the question of whether it's a good idea to take an old F-15 across the Atlantic, as they only have 2 engines and are apparently quite valuable. :wink:

Jeff Harris told me the other day that they did the taxi tests on their P-38 with minor squawks. Steve Hinton is to make the first flight soon, put 10 hours on it then type Jeff who'll fly it in the show
