the pby in lake mead is now open to recreational divers - divers can now explore the wreckage of a pby catalina on the bottom of lake mead nevada. the national park service gave it's official nod of approval recently. the plane sits in 190 feet of water in 2 sections. the depth of the wreck is considered high risk, & rated for pro divers only. it crashed / flipped in 1949 while converted to civilian use. 5 people perished in the crash, 1 survived. the aircraft blew up & sank.
