Warbird Information Exchange

I just learned the Air Mobility Command Museum in Dover,Delaware no longer has a P-51 in their collection. Anyone know where it went?

I had heard that it went to another static display somewhere in new york. I am not sure though.

I think that was a stupid move, as it was in a great home, but the NMUSAF made a deal with them. P-51's were never stationed at Dover AFB, and the museum there has a goal of getting one of every aircraft that flew from Dover. So the NMUSAF took the P-51, but gave them like 4 transports that they really wanted. That said, I still wish the Mustang would have stayed there. It was a very nice restoration.

I ran across that one at Rockefeller Center in NY during the 2003 centennial of flight exhibit. I thought it was quite cool of the museum to lend the airplane for that as I never expected to see a real P-51 in midtown Manhattan. Most of the other planes there were from Rhinebeck including the old Dr.I in which Cole provided such great entertainment in the 1970s. A memorable exhibit.
