Touching to me but not sad at all. I hope i get the chance to go out as such a big man! What more can one say. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

At least he went out on his own terms and got to fly one last time instead of waisting away in some dreary hospital.

I absolutely agree with you John!
He went out on his own terms and got that one last flight in before "letting go"...
I only hope that more of us have the same opportunity to live our final moments to the fullest.

That is the way to do it!

My father died in 1988. He retired and found out right away that he had brain cancer. They wanted to do surgery almost that same day, but he came home, got out his favorite plane (Mooney M18C) and proceeded to fly the hell out of it for an hour or so. Even buzzing town a couple of times. You gotta understand that he was a very high time pilot that generally did not break the rules.

He landed, put the airplane in the hangar and never looked back. He did not survive very long after the surgery.

He did it right!

Bill Dodds did it right. Attended airshow brief, walked out to his 6, laid on the grass in the shade of the 6, went to sleep and never woke up.

I think I might end up doing something similar to him. Flying is an infectious disease.

Absolutely amazing. Gave me chills down my back. Reminds me of Frank Sinatras "My Way". Thanks for sharing
