Airs on Friday April 27 11:00 PM

R. Lee Ermey is flying high with P-51s and P-47s, ace war birds from the Tennessee Museum of aviation's collection. Then, it's a trip back in time to see just what kind of gear the WW2 Marines carried into battle. Next, it's back to the skies for a one-of-a-kind ride in the Marine Corps' V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor. Even the Gunny makes mistakes, so R. Lee shows off a few of his most famous SNAFUs. Finally, the Gunny gives a fond farewell to the venerable Navy F-14 Tomcat.

Thats a great photo. I have some questions- What is the fourth plane in the pix? and they sure look like they are flying one very tight formation, is that so or just the way the picture was taken?

I am going to have to watch that one.

I dont know what the photo ship was, but dont you just hate it when your in the coolest formation ride ever and you are told to look ahead at the camera when the best view is on the other side?!

Looks to me like the other P-47 "Hun Hunter"

I believe the photo ship was Chris Johnson's TBM Avenger.

The fourth plane is definitely a P-47. Most likely its a P-47D-40-RE painted up to represent "Hun Hunter XVI." The dorsal fin ahead of the vertical stabilizer on "Wicked Wabbit" gives it away as to being a D-40-RE. These Thunderbolts were up in Kalamazoo, Michigan a year ago at an airshow there. Think they were touring the country with another P-47 painted up to look like Gabby Gabreski's plane.

I will be sure to catch this show tonight.

Jim

For some reason the History Channel moved the show today... till May 12, 2007. The people at Mail Call called me this morning to give me the news. I was looking forward to seeing the show, and now will have to wait for another 2 weeks.

Mint, can you bump this post again when it gets a little closer to air time? Some of us have short term memory loss.
