some ultra rare aviation related howard hughes aviation documents are to be auctioned off in rancho santa fe california. the auction will be conducted by "early american history auctions inc." on may 12th with the phone, mail, fax, & e-mail portion 1st, followed by a live internet sale via ebay on may 13th. the hughes archive consists of patent office documents & drawings of devices invented by hughes & his engineers, + legal documents transferring ownership of those patents to hughes tool company, & signed by howard hughes. among his inventions were flush rivets, retractable landing gear, hydraulic wing flaps, & flexible ammo belts to feed ammunition to aircraft guns. the most historic documents included in the auction are designs for the hughes xf-11 spyplane which hughes himself destroyed in beverly hills california, destroying a number of homes during it's test in flight in 1946. following the crash hughes invented the modern adjustable hospital bed. all documents are offered as a single lot, & all are guaranteed original & in excellent condition. pre-sale estimates are expected to bring $ 25 to $ 50 thousand dollars.
