Yeah, the story line is weak, but it does have it's redeeming qualities. JET NOISE (sorry, I'm used to yelling around them) Tomcats, Skyhawks, and two good looking blondes ! Oh yeah, the soundtrack is pretty good, too !

It also sparked Tom Cruise's interest in aviation which has led him to put some of his fortune into preserving warbirds.

So, it can't be all bad.

If it hadn't been for the awesome flying scenes in that movies, it would have been relegated to "B" movie status. I really enjoyed the scenes with the F-14s and the F-5s, but skip through the rest anymore. We need an aviation nuts version of the film with just the flying scenes!

12 o'clock high was WAY better! Although I think I would have voted for One Six Right.

Come on all, Top Gun is a classic. While it may not deserve the #1 spot for aviation nuts like us, there really is no other aviation-related movie out there that is as popular or had as big an impact as Top-Gun has. It was the #1 blockbuster of 1986 and is possibly the greatest recruiting tool the Navy/military has ever had. No other aviation film comes close to it's success - if that's what you want to base it on.

HeII's Angels? Probably a greater contemporary effect on the public than Top Gun.

Porco Rosso - grossed more (in Japan) than Titanic in the same year.

Certainly the best flying-boat-movie-starring-a-pig...
