I have reviewed the New York Locator. There are some new entries, and some with more info. You can find the Locator at…
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php?Region=NY

If you live in New York or are passing through I am looking for your help to fill in the blanks. You can find a list of the items I need help with below.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

#3: the Panther is located at the northwest corner of the Colvin Boulevard and Brighton Road intersection in the Town of Tonawanda. I have not seen it in some time but it was there as of about 3 years ago, and I have no reason to believe that it has since moved.

#4: The American Airpower Museum is at the Republic Airport near East Farmingdale. Which hangar do they occupy?

They occupy Hangar #3 which is one of 3 structures(hangars) that remain of the former Republic Aviation plant. Hangar #4 just to the south of it is used by an FBO, but the museum has a display of artifacts in the old control tower attached to this hangar. It is open to the public when the museum is open and they provide a shuttle to it from hangar #3.

#5: There may be a F-105 displayed in Garden City. If so where exactly is it?

It is at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City. It is stored outdoors, in need of restoration, to the west side of the museum's hangars #3 and #4. As of today it may or may not still be stored outside.

#7: There may be a F-86 displayed in Islip. If so where exactly is it?

There is no F86 in Islip that I am aware of. There is however an F-102 on display in front of the 106th Aerial Rescue Wing NY ANG detachment at the Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach. It is located on County Road 31 (Old Riverhead Road).

I don’t know the building at all since I have never been there. Does that make it the northern most building on the airport along Cpl Tony Casamento Hwy?

Duh. I should have seen that one.

I had it listed under East Quogue, which is wrong. I will correct that.

This one is being added. I have an approximate location of Herricks Lane and Route 25. Which farm is the Zaweski Farm?

Mike,

It is the second hangar heading south. Hangar 2 is the first and dates to the late 20's before Republic and even Seversky. Then #3 and 4 etc. The only other remnant is along Conklin St and it was part of the Republic factory but actually dates to the 20's and was Ranger Aircraft, then Grumman and finally Seversky. It predates the 1941 construction of the Republic plant directly across Conklin St, which is gone now for a shopping center.

I don't know why the old plant is still there after all these years? Most likely reason is contamination that no one wants to spend the money on to clean up. What I find neat is the old wooden hangar doors on the east end that are still there. I try to imagine them rolling out P-35's or BT-8's!

H.A.R.P. is located in Hangar B. THe large one by the water.

NARFAC does not exist, it was simply a suggested and rejected name change for HARP.

Delete it.

THe C-54 mentioned in NARFAC was misidentified. It is actually ours.

VFW Post 99 in Lowville, NY is at 7784 W. State St. Google Earth imagery does not have enough resolution to show anything of the twon, much less the VFW :(

The C-47 44-76457 belongs to H.A.R.P (NPS). It is located in Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field.

Hi Mike,
There's an AH-1 mounted on a pole at the American Legion post in Eden, NY - it's at 42 39 43.21 N 78 53 28.50 W; I saw it while on vacation last August.

Got it. Please confirm I am pointing at the correct building…

Got it. Actually it was in last night’s upload.

OK… Got it. There first building looks like two adjoined buildings. I am guessing it is the half to the east (nice parking lot around it).

Maps Live has better images, but not enough to pick out an AH-1. Thanks for the tip. The location will remain approximate, but that will be as good as it gets.

I added the C-47 serial into the private notes. I’ll have it if/when I expand the Locator in the future. Thanks.

Added.

All of the new mods will be in tonight’s upload. Thanks everyone!
