I noticed on the Canandian Warplane Heritage's website that their Avro Lancaster is going to be at Republic Airport, NY May 22-29. Can someone confirm this? Is it going to be part of the air show this weekend?

See this thread It certainly seems like it will be there, and has probably already landed at the airport.

She's here on LI! (Lanc Island?) A very rare sight indeed in these parts. Kudos to the AAM for bringing her down. I can't wait to see her over the beach on Saturday, and I plan to get up close at the museum on Monday.

I had the honor of climbing in her at Oshkosh last year. What a great airplane.

Oh man, that night shot is GORGEOUS!

But then it's hard to take a bad picture of that big, bad, beautiful bird!

The AAM website says that there are rides available on both aircraft that are there on display. Does anyone know if they are indeed offering flights on the Lanc and what they run?

Flights in the Lancaster are available on a regular basis, at a cost of $2000.

Its a little steep, but then again its the only flying example of its type in the world that you can get a ride in. I don't think the RAF is in a hurry to offer rides in theirs.

People travel from all over the world to get the chance to fly in VRA.

Wow, I thought I heard them quoting rides at $1,000 - or are you talking $2,000 Canadian?

Actually you are signing on as a member, its not really just going for a ride.

LANC BOMBER CREW $2,000.00

Senior Discount 25% (on membership portion only) = $1975 (65 years or older)
Includes all Sustaining Member benefits plus:
Tax Receipt $1900.00
Opportunity to crew aboard our Avro Lancaster.
That's Canadian $

I got up close and personal with the Lanc on Monday. I paid the $5 to walk through her but ended up being rushed through because I happend to have a crowd behind me. But I figured it was such a rare opportunity for me that I paid another $5 to go through again! This time the CWH volunteer manning the cockpit noted my keen interest in the Lanc, and told me to have a seat and take my time, just let the others pass by.

The crowds thinned a bit and I had his ear, so we did a lot of talking about the Lanc and the CWH. I mentioned I was glad they made the trip down to LI to afford me the chance to see her up close, and that for a few years they didn't seem to travel at all, but that looks like it has changed. He told me a change in management at CWH was the reason behind that, and mentioned Dayton last year and hopefully OSH. They seemed very happy to be taking her on the road again, and are justifiably proud.

Here are some shots from my visit:

Great shots, Pete. I didn't get a chance to get inside her, it's nice to see what I missed.
