Neat stuff! Is that a Shawnee in the first pick hauling the artillery piece?

Hi Zeb,
I was given this photo a while back by a chap who knew your dad after WWII. The P-86 shots reminded me of it . It shows
your dad in flying gear with Gen Kenney by a P-86A and displays the data block showing the s/n. I recall your dad saying he did demo flight with the new Sabres around 47-48 so maybe he was flying it at Cleveland??
Take care.......Jack

Great photos - thanks for posting. VG-Photo, the helo is prior to the Shawnee (which is a late '40s/early '50s design), look at the cockpit windows as they are different as is the overall shape of the airframe. It appears to be a Piasecki HRP-1 Rescuer (a Navy design) but I need to get home this evening to look at my reference material.

Zeb, in the second photo of the P-86, there's some aircraf tlined up in the background. Can you tell what they are in your original scan?

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Thanks Mark. I still have some recognition skills to learn with rotary wings. ;)

Zeb,
The sabre your dad is flying in all 3 photos is s/n 47-611
which set a world speed record of 670.98 mph
on Sept 15, 1948 flown by Maj. Robert Johnson.

Zeb,

These are great pictures!

Great info Jack!

The line of airplanes to the left of the Sabre look like B-17's to me... I'am biased...But I do think they are tail draggers.

Well that clears things up a bit....my Dad waz a VIP pilot for Gen. Kenney whilst he waz a FSO in tha Continental Air Force transition period. In fact, Gen. Kenney's Secretary was/is my Mom. Still alive at a soon to be 82 yrs and still bustin' my chops.

By tha way, given tha fact that Pop's waz a Capt., as they fazed tha CAF out, Pop's waz tha last acting FSO....before transferring to Gen. LeMay's SAC, to become SAC's 1st FSO.

On tha planes in tha background, I'll scan it larger and see if they are B-17s or B-29s.

I scanned this at 800X563 pixels...so I'm using a thumbnail this time. I don't think tha planes in tha background are B-17s...look more like B-29s.
