I'm looking for a T.O. from late 1940's to early 1950's outlining the ARC5 radio equipment that would have been installed in SNJ-5's at NARF Pensacola. Anyone out there have info and radio numbers or even pics? The NAVY did not use all the same radios listed in the T6D/SNJ5 parts book as the Army Aircorps did so the parts books are not really much help. Better yet anyone out there have a hobby of ARC 5 radios and making them work!!

There is a radio forum, and a very large collection of people who play with vintage military radios. The expertise there is frightening and sometimes deeper than some of the expertise here. Robert, wa5cab I believe, is a very extensive expert on aircraft radios. I would start there first.

There is a military radio email list there. I haven't used it, but I know some of the heavies from G503 frequent there.

FYI, my 1944 BT-13 44-89867 was equipped with ARC-5 radios. Apparently, the late war trainers were all equipped with the series, which were also not known at that time as the ARC-5- that is a later designation. The ones in my aircraft were mounted in front of the front spar on three trays at an angle. I wonder if the T-6 may have had them mounted on the wing center section in a similar fashion? The power supply is the big thing on those- I don't think there is a convenient place to put it on the fuselage sides on a T-6.

It's a small word in the aviation community, I had sent you an Email last week after I had gone through my favorites list of aircraft restorations and saw that you have not updated your SNJ project in a while. After you sent the reply I found your T28 page, What an Incredible Job you have done!!! Just Outstanding Work!!!
There are quite a few restoration thread Topics on this Forum if you could add yours that would be Great!

Steve,
Well first thanks for the compliments on my restoration work. The T-28C was a major job and won many high profile awards. With the SNJ-5C I decided to up the ante and go all out. It's a slow process when you reskin everything, use class I cad plating on all hardware and do all safety wire in brass, etc etc. I spend all my time in the hangar here at home so I don't see the computer much to do updates on the web site(I just have no interest in computers, they are evil!)
I have been a WIX member for a long time I guess but don't know anything about the restoration threads you talk about.
I'm getting ready to open a restoration shop so if there are any warbird owners out there that are interested in award winning restorations lets talk.
Thanks again for the interest and I'll update the SNJ page when the engine is hung this month.

Not all of the threads are "restoration thread" some are just maintenance but you will get the jest. The person that created the thread will post an up date and bring the topic up when they have something new.
