The ANN Story details a combat history for this bird:

Quote:
This saga began when Pupich fell in love with the B-25 as a
child. He bought the 29,000-pound movie star thirty-five years ago.
Yes, movie star. The bomber had a role in the 1970 movie
Catch-22.

Her war service includes 38 bombing missions including kills of
two Japanese Zeros, two ships, and a steamroller.
In 1992, she took
off from the flight deck of the USS Ranger in honor of the 50th
anniversary of the Doolittle raid on Toky

Is the history of the "nose art" or of 44-30748?

God I love reporters. Never, ever let the truth get in the way of a good story. This reminds me of the knuckle headed reporter holding the pito tube on a T-28 and saying "the machine gun survived".

I believe the correct technical term used was "machine turret survived".

Mike

The sad part is that I think 80% of news is just about as accurate however most people just don't don't know enough about the truth to know the difference.

I really need to get one of those T-28 Machine Gun Turrets; in fact I’m going to call C&J right after lunch.

So, getting back to the issue at hand, sorry  When I lived in California, it always amazed me that there were car dealerships with service departments that were just a roof with open walls and roll down screen doors.

Is there an option that they don't need a fully enclosed hangar but at least a structural roof over their heads. That should be considerable cheaper than a fully enclosed hangar. Sure, maybe not the ultimate but a far sight better than nothing.

Just a thought. :)

A dealership stands to lose maybe 250k if one of those doors blows open and sand/debris/flying duckpoo destroys a few cars. How much is a B24 worth?

If Van Nuys is anything like most of the airports I have had dealing with, there is very little real estate to actually place such a building, and on top of it, the real estate is pretty tightly controlled at that. Additionally, you can't put temporary buildings on tie down pads or ramps at most of these places either. I tried to do such a thing with a temporary tent over a BC-12D at my local airport over a winter when I needed to do some work on her, but the airport had a real problem with it.

It's all about airports being greedy and adding huge fees and increases to drive out the little guys in the end... and as it has been mentioned earlier, the B-25 is a "spokesperson" of sorts for the plight of the little guys at the airport.
