Well, I just took my first flight lesson. Man, was it fun and I flew for 36 minutes. Just going over the basic fundamentals of flying. Jerry my instuctor let me taxi to the active runway. I was a little nervous but I did ok. Jerry took off and he had me climb to 2000 feet leveled off and practiced some turns. I tried to keep the ball in the center the best I could. :) I was a little tense at first but then I got the feel of it and my turns were much better. :D So, I finally took my first step and was pretty cool flying.

Cheers,
Nathan(the excited! :D )

Nathan...Cool. What are you flying? 36 minutes? Was it a "Discovery" flight?

Hiya Mudge,

I'm flying a Cessna 152. Well, the original plan was to fly an hour but my instuctor just wanted me to get the feel of things. It's a start and I plan on flying at lest once a week. How many hours do you have so far Mudge?

Tally ho,
Nathan

Nathan, well done, you are on the road to a life time of fun. Have your instructor teach to trim the airplane and keep it that way and you'll have the upper hand on it in no time.

Good Luck,

Lynn

Try to fly more than once a week, the less time between flights the better! I have been thinking of going for my Private Pilot in a few years, after my case wraps up. :)

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much. :D

I will only be able to finance one flight per week. But we will see. I've had flying in my head all day. I'd be up there all day if I could. It's a big confidance builder for me. I did use the elevator trim a little bit while we were in a no power descent. One thing surprised me while in a left bank turn I felt some g's. I asked Jerry about it and he said we only pulled about a 1/2 g. Even though small I could really feel it. My first few turns I found that I really wanted to turn fast so I relaxed back pressure and took my time with the other turns. Worked better those times. Just a few nice gentle turns while I kept my eye pretty well glue to the ball to make sure I would not slip. It's harder then you think trying to use a yoke and rudder pedals at the same time! Of course I really didn't fly that long so I still need time to get the feel of the airplane.

Tally ho,
Nathan

Congrats Nathan!
Welcome to the path that will take you to many, many years of enjoyable flying!

I remember my first 'lesson' taught to me by a friend in an old Piper Cub ~6 years ago. An amazing experience and pure 'stick and rudder' flying. That was enough to make me want to pursue 'taildragger' training from the outset and get my tailwheel endorsement along with my private pilot ticket.
Many fun hours later after training in the various school's 7ECA Citabrias, I passed the checkride!

My recommendation is to try out some taildragger flying and get some experience with 'stick and rudder' flying. Nothing like a tailwheel aircraft to really get you to understand 'the dance' required for keeping those aircraft under control on the ground and in the air. :D

Above all, make sure you have fun and savor every minute!

Regards,
Mike

P.S. Oh, one more thing. Try to keep your head out of the cockpit and not focus on the instruments too much. Use your peripheral vision and your butt to help you understand what the aircraft is doing and it'll help you enjoy the flying and not overly focus on the instruments...

Keep up the Flying! You'll love every minute of it... Hopefully.

As you can probably tell, the people here on WIX are a great resource for people learning to fly. If you have any questions along the way, either ask them, or refer to Mudge's posts.

Cheers,

David

Thanks Dave and everyone else. :D I'll try my best not to let anyone down.

Yep, WIX is a great breeding ground for new pilots. I can't get over how much information one can find out from such forums as these. I'm sure I will have many questions down the road.

Tally ho,
Nathan

Nathan,

I used to have my students take a handheld & go park by the north end of Addison and watched A/C land. You can learn so much from every else. You will soon feel that you are landing it and can see what they did wrong. Watch a A-36 land and then watch a C-152/172 land

Good luck and stay with it

Lynn
