THE FANTASTIC FOUR.......Horsemen that is...

Sun Jun 24, 2007 12:00 am

Some of you may remember, and may have been lucky enough to catch the perfomance by 'The Four Horsemen'. They perfomed together in their P-51's for the 1995 season only.

They were; Ed Shipley, Jim Beasly Jr., Dan Calderale and Vlado Lenoch. I caught up with them at Sussex NJ, August of that year. Here is my video of that performance.

Pete,

Thanks for posting this! Great to see and hear some of the Sussex 95 show and the 4 Horsemen.

I used to really enjoy Sussex, known as “the world’s biggest little airshow.”
I remember seeing so much there over the years.
2004 was sadly the last show due to pending sale of the airport.
Sussex was close for me and a real country style airshow.

First picture below is of P-51 Bald Eagle from 1991 with “freeloaders hill” in the background.
“Freeloaders hill” is where people too cheap to pay admission went to watch the show from.

Second is from an old Six of Diamonds performance.

Third is from the last show in 2004 showing Sky Boss and some
more of the local countryside. Anybody who enjoys the setting of
Geneseo would have liked this show.

Pete if you have anymore video from Sussex or the 4 Horsemen I’d enjoy seeing it.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

I enjoyed the Sussex shows. My first was in 1984 when I was 16 and I attended in 89, 90, 95, 97 and the last show in 2004. It was like Gennie, and very friendly. It had a great country fair feel to it and the location and surrounding country side was perfect. That last weekend in August also always seemed to have good weather most of the time.

I'll post some more Sussex warbirds when I can. I miss this show.

You HAD to get a smile out of the commentator's line, "...you'd better be prepared to shell out $600,000." If only....

Mudge the smiling :D
