I shot some pics of the RA-5C Vigilante now on display at Sanford Int Airport here in sunny Florida.
The aircraft is on display because Sanford Int used to be NAS Sanford from WWII through Vietnam.
Word has it some of NAS Sanfords WWII aircraft are being restored & will soon be on display next to the Vigilante.

Its nice to see the RA-5 at SFB,but a flying version wouldn't be welcomed by the new residents of the area.Sanford has turned into a bedroom community for Orlando and noise complaints start pouring in if a Cessna 152 make too wide of a pattern.

A flying RA-5C is not likely to happen. The J-79's were gas pigs and adding that 5 stage AB, you might as well a buy you a super tanker to keep your fuel costs down. The avionics package was out of date when I made a deployment with them back in 77. Radar was an APG-12.

I would love to see one of these flying. but as stated above probably wont ever happen.
At least they have been taking pretty good care of this old bird , keeping her clean & all.
This project is only a few years old, they keep making little improvements to the park.
Not seen in the photos are a number of bronze plaques that honor the service man & aircraft of NAS Sanford.

The group that restored the Vigilante is currently working on a PV-1 Ventura restoration for display at Sanford. It originated at Stockton
with Aero Nostalgia and is on charge with Pensacola. The restoration hangar is located over the other side in the old fire station .

Nice pics of a beaut of an aircraft that thankfully is well displayed too.
I have a friend who flew with RVAH-3 back in the days of the end of the A-5A and transition to the RA-5C. I'll send him the link to this thread and let him know...

SOMEDAY there will be a small bolt on anti-gravity propulsion device 
in civilian hands and then we'll all wish we had a few structurally sound A-5's , B-58's, B-47's, Vulcans, etc., around to put back in the air!
Of course by the time that happens maybe we will also have a replicator device, the size and simplicity of a digital camera, so we can go around to museums and make copies of whatever we want. Ya, I might buy one of those!
