OK Eric, I'm game! Why don't you like going to Oshkosh?
Well....the honest answer is that it is no one thing in particular, but a combination of a bunch of little things. None of which will make any points with anyone who is connected with the event organization or who really looks at it as the "event of the year". But here goes:
1. It has always seemed to me that (at least among the warbirds) that it turns into a my warbird is _________, ___________, _________, and it is better somehow than yours. I look at a nice PT or L-Bird with the same appreciation as a Mustang or a Skyraider. I particularly think the T6 crowd gets the short end of the stick there. There is a palpable hierarchy there, and I choose not to participate in it.
2. It is a commercial event, first and foremost, I understand that, but for the cost and hassle of bringing in a warbird, you really don't get much, gas wristbands, whatever.
3. I don't like the 5 day minumum hotel stay thing. And getting in and out of the place.
4. My limited experience with it is also, flying in that enviroment, show or just in and out is some of the most chaotic flying you will ever do.
As I said, all this just sounds like a bunch of whining, but to be clear, what I originally said was that I am not a big fan, not that I didn't like Osh Kosh itself. Splitting hairs, yes, but in my small mind there is a difference.
You asked, so there is the whole boring deal.
