Gang, The WW2 Classic "BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES" is on Tonite (Weds, Aug 8th) at 8pm Eastern on TCM. This is a great WW2 movie with a few really cool Warbird scenes. Including this incredible scene filmed just after the war in a WW2 Warbird Graveyard full of B-17's waiting to be scrapped. Some of these planes were so NEW they still had brown Kraft Paper coverings on the seats.

It really is a great movie. It is one of the things that got me hooked with airplanes. I remember watching it with my dad when I was young.

When your young you don't remember movie titles, but every so often that plane scene would pop into my head.

Too bad Dana Andrews did not buy some of those old B-17's.

As the aerovintage webpage states, nearly all of the B-17s in the movie were well-worn trainers. Now, as far as new Forts, Altus AAF stored over fifty factory-fresh B-17s and eventually scrapped them on site after a sale to the U.S. Navy fell through. Kingman and Walnut Ridge also had a mix of new and old aircraft in their inventories. Those shots of Dana Andrews have always made me wonder about all the young boys who trained at Rapid City and Ardmore prior to heading to war.
