Anyone have any idea if there is a P-43 out there that could be restored to flying condition? Always loved the look of this airplane and it has all the great lines. Also a Brewster Buffalo would be fun too. I know there's a static Buffalo out there, but couldn't we get these two in the air? I'll throw in a few bucks .. lolol

This airplane would be a fun restoration project.

I'm not aware that there is a surviving P-43. I understand there are some parts though. Maybe it's time for a trip to China or Myanmar.

I think the USAF museum has one, either all in one piece or in parts. Not sure though, thought I saw one there once.

Hellcat -- as you can imagine, this group has covered quite a bit of ground over the years. There's a lot of great information buried in the older threads on the forum like here...

http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5372&highlight=lancer

including a link that takes you here...

Any time you're wondering about a particular airplane or topic, try giving the site's "search" feature (located in the upper right of the screen) a whirl and chances are you'll find something interesting.

Hey,

I'm very glad you asked this question Hellcat! I haven't been on WIX for too... too long and never got to enjoy this conversation. I checked out the older thread on the Lancer and have learned a lot.

Thanks,

David

P.S. Hey Hellcat, I totally know what you mean about needing to spend more time on WIX... I'm already on it more that I probably should... haha

I am not kidding when I say that I may have spent almost a year reading the old posts before I actually registered here. I would do a page a day (unless "work" got in the way)

I'm going to find a P-43 if it's the last thing I do.

Bring your shovel out to Chino Airport. That's where one of the last known remaining P-43s was seen. I'd also recommend reading some of the books written by the Flying Tigers. P-43s were also used in China.

Gotta be some in China.

I love the P-43. Sexy as hell and never really got a chance to prove its stuff. I would say it is better then the P-40 because it could operate higher then the P-40. Woulda made a cool escort.

Chino? ... wouldn't surprise me .... they seem to have a lot of great stuff out there. Maybe I'll bring a front end loader. Never know what I'll find if I dig deep enough ....

Seems we talked about this one time before, but I strongly feel that some day soon, there will be a market for new-built warbirds of your choice. Everything is out there to do it ... plans are out there for just about any airplane you would like. ... And this is what will be in the future ... If you have just one small part that was original to your aircraft choice, the rest can be factory new. ... and that will be fine for most to think they had a real (authentic as best as possible) warbird. ... talking way down the road here, but I see that happening.

The interest is there and it's already being done (Fluk Work FW190's) ... just about $$$$$ .... or course. .. lolol

If I ever win the lottery I plan on doing just that. Forming a company to biuld reproduction aircraft.

The aircraft on top of my list would be:

P-40B/C
F2A-3 Buffalo
P-43 Lancer
P-36A/C/G
