Hi
okay - I admit that I might be ignorant.... but can a good soul please identify these two ships for me ? Taken in July 2002, they look like used for a movie...... the serials are completely bogus for surviving P-51's..... colors are for the 71st TRG 82nd TRG - and 44-14837 is the historical serial for William Shomo's F-6D in which he claimed his 7 kills in a day and won the Medal of Honor
enlightenment is much appreciated !

Martin the two aircrsft were:
A68-110/VH-MFT
Normally painted as ‘A68-769 FA .<I> Snifter’ a P-51D-25-NT 44-84502. For a period it was temporarily painted as ‘42-86621/60’ for filming of “The Great Raid” in 2002 but reverted to its RAAF markings soon after.
A68-107/VH-AUB
Normally painted as 'A68-107/07' it was temporarily painted as ‘60/414837’ for the film “The Great Raid” (see also VH-MFT). It subsequently flew with a hybrid of the film and ‘RAAF’ markings before reverting to its former full RAAF markings.
HTH and regards,
David

The Red Baron team out of Casper, WY owned N5471V painted as "The Flying Undertaker" in the 70s. After a crash it was sold to Ritchie Rasmussen in Canada who rebuilt it, sold it to Mickey Rupp, who in turn sold it to the Bowlin's. This is the a/c Jeff Michael bailed out of.
