Cdr 'Zip' Rousa wrote about his squadron flying their ADs for
the movie and being disappointed that 99.9% of the flying they
did ended up being cut.
He wrote a great book called 'Gold Wings Blue Sea' and was
the editor of the Naval Aviation News for many years.

The Messerchmitts were Bf-108s posing as 109s (although in the real invasion "Pips" Priller and his wingman flew Fw-190s.) It's been awhile since I've seen the film but I would assume the glider scenes were done with a combination of were full-size non-flying mock-ups, and model shots.

Image from Mr. Peter Arnold ( Mark12 ) of MK923 in the middle of MH415 and MK297. Very Cool
