After 2 years of hunting for parts, welding, manufacturing, machining, Parkerizing, De-milling and generally spending piles of cash, we have turned these.....



In to these...............








The pictures really don't do them justice, I found the right and left feeders, correct mounting trays, feed chutes and even the de-linker chutes (thanks to Albert Stix). Now I am on a total hunt for 2 correct Ammo boxes. They are rare and look like this.

That's a very nice offer. To be honest, I don't know the exact dimensions, but will find out. The picture I posted is from the only one I have ever seen personally, it's in a great little museum at the Tyler TX, airport. Any help would be greatly appreciated, you can barely see them when installed in the airplane, but you know how it goes, why stop now when I have already found everything else.

Turned out pretty nice Eric. How many pieces were they cut into before you started? (Been there and done that)

And you found some link eject chutes. We're still looking... also hoping to find one of the charging cylinders and related attach parts.

Our guns are very comparable, only big diff is that he painted his and I went ahead and Parkerized mine, you can see in the pics that the suppressor sleeve on the barrels so the difference in color when you Parkerize them, but that's the way it was.

I understand the concept! "Why stop now" causes most of my projects to stretch on needlessly...

These boxes fit in the wings, right? What size is the cavity in the wings? How many rounds do they hold?

My dad lives outside Tyler. Should I ask him to take a drive and find out?

Can I ask what is Parkerizing?

From Wikipedia...

Parkerizing (also called phosphating and phosphatizing) is a method of protecting a steel surface from corrosion and increasing its resistance to wear through the application of an electrochemical phosphate conversion coating. Parkerizing is usually considered to be an improved zinc or manganese phosphating process, and not to be an improved iron phosphating process, although some use the term parkerizing as a generic term for applying phosphating (or phosphatizing) coatings that does include the iron phosphating process. Parkerizing is commonly used on firearms as a more effective alternative to bluing, which is another electrochemical conversion coating that was developed earlier. The Parkerizing process cannot be used on non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, or copper. It similarly cannot be applied to steels containing a large amount of nickel, or on stainless steel. (See Passivation for protecting other metals.)

Look at the finish on any military weapon. It'll be "Parkerized".

ERIC, I have seen those boxes!!!! They look dam close to a couple that I had seen at a Military vehicle rally in NH.........unfortunatly i bought the Bigger "Rocket Box" for the EOD tools in dad's and mine 3/4 truck. Find some dimensions and i will find out who had them.

Now that has Eric shown me a photo of the correct wing ammo cans, I understand why they are so rarely found with warbird parts dealers. These would have made handy storage cans on the surplus market so gun dealers and Army/Navy surplus shops are probably where they all went. Find the towns where Skyraiders were salvaged and start checking the military collectable shops and surplus stores.

Eric, you should post the photos of the guns when they were cut up so people can really see how much work went into making these demils look this good! They sure fooled me and I used to have a Class III FFL. Great work!
