From what I was told, I'm probably wrong though, all the original AC-47s were left in SE Asia, mostly Thailand and were eventually scrapped. The two that are flying today are restorations, one was at Midland this week ands the other is currently in Casa Grande, Ariz. Anyone else out there have more info than me? I'd like to know some more too.

Is the one at Hurlburt Field's Air Park not an original?? Not flying, of course, but certainly not scrapped either.

AC-47D TAIL #42-100510 HISTORY
This aircraft was manufactured in Long Beach California and delivered to the USAAF on October 23, 1943. In November 1943 it operated in England and after termination of hostilities it was assigned to Germany with the 61st, 12th, and 60th Troop Carrier Groups and the 7290th Air Base Group (also flying the Berlin Airlift). The aircraft was given to the country of Turkey as military aid in January 1949 and returned to the USAF in 1970. On June 9, 1973 it was dedicated at a base open house attended by Mrs. Donald Hurlburt, widow of 1st Lt. Donald Hurlburt for whom the base is named.

Assumption is that it was converted & used in anger from '70-73...(but you know what happens when you assume... )

I had a chance to see it a few months back. It needs some work. But I think Rick will do a great job of putting her back the way she needs to be. Nothing but time & $$$. :D

Al told me that he has been steady painting on it. There's a lot of surface acres on a C-47 !

Glen, it's the Collings Foundation, not the Bob Collings foundation.

No, it's not ours, I'll let the owner make the formal announcement but it is affilliated with a Texas based Skyraider. :D

The aircraft is not currently on public display and is not yet completed. It was put together with paint still drying for Wings Over Houston. It will likely also appear at Lone Star's Fly Day.

I have a question for those folks who have an FC/AC-47 recreation flight. I've not seen them in a show yet...But how do ya'll handle the recreation of/or intend to represent the sound of the gunships during your routines? Looking forward to seeing the new bird!

The paint was out of date and donated. Except for the dark green the other two colors are close. And yeah, I know it's gloss.
