Sunday I was able to work with the pyro crew. We were between the runways for the majority of the show except when the Thunderbirds performed. I'm talkin some real low strafing by Mustangs and aerobatic acts! 50-20ft.
Work started before dawn. For the "Wall of Fire", 3000ft of detonation cord was laid out in a straight line. Then we tightly taped smaller 3ft.coils about every 8ft., that were set in small cardboard boxes. Trash bags were then set in the boxes and filled with 5gals. of auto fuel. I estimate 350 boxes!
This was just for the "Wall". Blasting caps, det cord and flour was used for the machine gun effects during other parts of the show.
I worked with some real nice Navy people, Rich Gibson's Pyro Team, The GML people, Fire Marshall Rich Stelzer and other great volunteers.
Thank you all for the experience. Check out the links for some great pics.
