"Hypothetical" mission

Lets pretend I have all the monetary need ed for a little project like this. :wink:

Logging
Gas
Needed spare parts
Dealing with the red tape of it being in another country
Dealing with the owner or owners
Dealing with the red tape involved to bring her back.

What I'm trying to find is,

How much roughly do you think it would cost to gain ownership of this Pby, get her in flyable condition (she looks pretty solid right now), and fly her back to oh lets say the nearest lake near my house? Or runway. Whatever works.

Yea, you're probably going to go through lots of lumber repairing that thing. :wink:

I have no idea. I don't really even know the steps to finding out! But I havent seen this one before. Have any of you?

An important thing to ask is how long it's been sitting there and the effects of the environment on it. With the engines need any work, or a complete overhaul. Same with the props, and avionics.

Oh yeah, there's also the money issue.

There will probably be some cost for importing the airplane. I'd say, since it's across the drink, it would be easier to ship it over rather than fly it. But then again, where's the adventure in that?

Exactly!

Really I was looking at too many of those Kee Bird photos and started gettin' the itch for a Warbird filled adventure! I would just hope that my adventure would end safely.

I am in when do we go? I would love to do someting like a PBY. For now I stick to single engine stuff. And small ones at that. :lol:

Hmmmm, well than lets say we would want for her final destination to be Sikorsky Memorial Airport, Stratford, CT.

Actually, I wonder if any of the local Warbird museums would be warm hearted and welcome a private owner of a Pby? Even for a temporary holding spot. At least until I could figure out where the most adequate location would be to restore back to stock condition.

My guess would be:

-American Airpower Museum- (They have the Catalina from my childhood! But ramp space seems to be tight.)

-1941 H.A.G.- (The same Canso was there and they’ve worked with heavy birds like such. But they did just take on the A-20 from Mr. T. But then again, they do have a huge freakin grass field! What’s a little Catalina eye candy?)

-Wings of Eagles- (Not so sure about this one anymore.)

-C.W.H.- (Another Pby operator! Though room inside is tight for another boat, but I know it‘d be in good hands.)

-Fighter Factory- (They have an awesome looking Pby! Also there seems to be ample ramp space at their field.)

-M.A.A.M.-(Space issue maybe? Again, dual engine operators!)

From anyone of these fine establishments, "the transformation" could begin!

By. May 09. I would want to shoot for. I would take to August if necessary.

Of course this is all "hypothetical".

Why don't you start with this one at NEAM? It needs alittle more work but its nearby and will be cheaper :wink:
