T Hill fly by for funeral

Funeral fly by will be held at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio.
Someone says there are several formations fly-by planned.
Apaches AH-64D, A-10s, P-51s and a lone P-40 at the end.
Ceremony to be held Tuesday Oct 16th at 1pm

An e-mail from Ollie Crawford;
"His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church in San Antonio. His last flight will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Aircraft flying over the burial site in his honor over the cemetery will include four Apache helicopters from Fort Knox followed by four A-10s from Moody Air Force Base, followed by four P-51s and then a lone P-40 "

The Apaches will be The Flying Tigers of the 8-229th at Fort Knox, KY.

The A-10's will be from the 23rd FG, 75th FS "Flying Sharks". Tex Hill was the first CO of the 75th when activated in China during WWII, he is known as "Shark-1".
Not sure what P-51's will appear. Anyone know?
The P-40 will be in Tex's markings

Two that I know of will be La Pistolera and Glamorous Glen III, not sure on the other two.

The P-40 ought to carry one of those little airline bottles of Scotch. I'm sure most any warbird owner whose plane is in the area and flyable would make it available for Tex.

I am pretty sure Gunfighter is in town for Tuesday, and maybe Miss Marllyn for the fourth......just guessing on that one if it is back from GML

The P40 is Cavanaugh's in Charlie Bonds markings. I'm heading down to SA in a few minutes.

I just happen to be working in San Antonio today. As I look out the office window just off nw 410 loop, it is low overcast....I sure hope Mr. Hill gets his fly-over. My thoughts are with this hero.

I won't be able to leave work to go to the funeral like I would, but I'm seeing rather low overcast here also and I'm about 5-7 miles from Ft. Sam.

At the time of Tex's service I was over the Rockie Mountains in the Spitfire and Tex was very much in my thoughts. So perhaps that was sort of a long range fly by, even if not in a P-40.

I stopped and observed a moment of silence about one oclock today. It wasnt' much but I did what I could.

With Tex's passing, how many AVG pilots remain?

I was at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo today, and while there stood looking at the P-40 there, and thought of Tex. I then got to thank a vet in person. He was a WWII F4U Corsair mechanic in the Marines.
