Here is an interview with Kenneth Chilstrom, who flew a P-40 off of the USS Ranger before becoming an A-36 pilot with the 27th Fighter Bomber Squadron during WWII. After his combat tour of 80 missions he returned to the U.S. to became one of the Air Corps’ first test pilots.
Hope you like it...

Zack,
Thanks so much for posting that link to Col. Ken Chilstrom's interview. I had the great opportunity to meet Ken at the NMUSAF on Oct 1, just a few weeks ago. He had attended the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends and was visiting the Air Force Museum before heading home.
I felt very fortunate to converse with Col. Chilstrom for a while and learn more about his career accomplishments. He is a true aviation legend in my opinion.
Zack, if you have not already had the opportunity, I would recommend obtaining Ken's book, "Test Flyiing At Old Wright Field". This book is a compilation of stories written by a number of pilots (including Col. Chilstrom) discussing their experiences with aircraft at Wright Field. It covers both propeller and jet airplanes.
The second edition, first published in 1993 has additional stories added compared to the first addition, so it is somewhat more desireable if you have a choice when purchasing.
