Another loan for the NMUSAF fron the NASM...

According to the NASM e-newsletter I received the other day, the NASM is loaning the Avro Aircraft Ltd. VZ-9AV "Avrocar" to the NMUSAF. Another project for the already busy restoration shop at the NMUSAF!! see www.nasm.si.edu/research/aero/aircraft/avro.htm for a description of just what an Avrocar is.

:? I'm happy for the NMUSAF, however that's something that would look great on display somewhere like the Canadian National Aviation Museum, or the Toronto Aerospace Museum, or somewhere like that. I wonder if they were contacted and were not interested, or if they were never contacted. It'll be nice to see it displayed though, it'll give me another reason to visit!

The Avrocar, that's pretty exciting. I second Greg's comment about seeing it at the National museum in Ottawa.

In any case, I think the move is good. I think I remember the thing was in storage where nobody could see it.

Cheers,

David

About 5+ years ago the Canada Aviation Museum made an effort to obtain the Avro Car. I don't know what was offered and how it was offered. The short of the long is the NASM is not giving it up.

I too believe the Avro Car should go to the Canada Aviation Museum, but it was originally a USAF funded project and in that sense does belong to the poeple of the United States.
