I hope that is true. I would love to see that one go to a museum like NMUSAF or Kalamazoo to be cleaned , preserved and displayed as is in exchange for another less historic P-47 to be put back into civilian hands and flying again. :)

That's quite an interesting story. Amazing recovery too.

She looks in decent shape, but I have to ask, how come there's what looks like a slice down it's belly like it was gutted like a fish?

kind of odd I'd say...

Cheers,

David

the undercarriage looks pretty rough, it also appears that the landing gears are missing.

Looks like a good restoration candidate, though.

Gear are up and locked, and undamaged. Doors are a little tweaked though!

The P-47 has an exhaust system where there are 2 pipes that run from the engine to the turbo charger along the belly. There is structure that surrounds the pipe to protect the aircraft from the heat and any leakage. That structure is stronger and didn't collapse while the skin and more flimsy structure between them did when it impacted. That is why the gutted fish appearance.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.
