Warbird Information Exchange

Sometimes seems unfortunate, but I have noticed, in my short time here, that some threads seem to just "fade away". I understand the whole theory about posting here, I understand that some threads just end for many reasons, lact of interest, or simply the old "why beat a dead horse", but many times on certain threads, I wish the input would continue, I really enjoyed several informative threads that I would constantly check to see if anyone has added a post, but many seem to just lose it's luster. No one's to blame, or maybe we're all to blame, but this is just my observation, for better or for worse ... I also realise that I could re-open a new thread continuing an old thread, but I have been directed to the old thread, which has been dead for a while .... Just an observation. Is it of any value to anyone here to try to re-open an old thread? I will certainly try if the feedback is positive .... maybe I just need a needle and thread and go somewhere and nit a purse ...

so someone who may have missed it originally will see it, you simply reply
to it by posting the word "BUMP" to bump the thread back to the top of the list hoping
it catches their eye...or someone who now has time to run a search for you utilizing their sources or references.

I believe that this has a lot to do with threads falling off the front page very quickly nowadays. This is caused by the volume of single-photo posts, many of which fill up the page then slide down with little or no replies posted. Just look at the last few threads started to see examples of this.

The solution to this would be for each poster to use a single thread for their 'old photo' posts, in much the same way that armyjunk2 did for his fascinating Long Island photos. This would have the added bonus of keeping the interesting photo threads near the top and easy to find, rather than 'spamming' the boards with numerous single-photo threads, which clog the front page, move other threads down the order very quickly then rapidly sink from sight.

I've noticed that the dynamic of the board has changed in the last year or so - there seems almost to be a competition to see who can start the most threads nowadays. There seems to be a move away from the warbird current scene, at least in numbers of new threads, to posting archive photos. Lots of threads, fewer posts per thread.

I'd be interested to hear what others think about this.

I've never given it any thought.
But, if the photos aren't relevent to each other posting
them together seems odd

Jack Cook, You have posted some excellent photos, that I would like to see all of them under one thread...this would allow me to consitantly review what you've put up with much greater ease. Granted as you have posted one after the other, I can locate them in a timely manner, but being able to see yer stuff in one envelope would allow me, and others to go directly to your thread and scan the entire collection.

I also think a single photo thread per member would be a good idea. Jack, no problem if pictures aren't related. It would make reading the forum a lot easier

I have noticed a marked increase in posts that are nothing more than a link to a single link to youtube with titles that may as well be "gee-wiz that is neat." Once in a great while those posts are interesting but I find myself more often than not skipping over any thread that I remotely expect will be link to that. I think there are a lot of different people on WIX that have different interest levels and we all just have to filter through the things that don't interest us.

I enjoy historic pictures, especially the early jets, but I think they would actually better showcased perhaps in a single sticky thread called "Historic Aircraft Photo Thread" or I would nominate "haha can I do that" Jack Cook to have an official WIX blog where he can post his pictures and the stories behind them. I think that would be a much better venue that way the pictures and comments would be all in one place, and people could comment back on them, and those of us who are lazy wouldn't have to go back and look through pages looking for them lol.

Also in my fantasy world the gallery forum would be the "Warbird Photos and Videos" and that is where the seeming endless supply of youtube video links would be posted.

While I'm having my way I wouldn't be disappointed to see a little bit less of threads that seem to be essentially "what's your favorite color" as far as I am concerned, but hey whatever floats your boats I suppose.

My personal interests lay more in restoration, preservation, and recovery of warbirds, and related items. I am not all that interested in who owns this or that P-51 , what aircraft were at this or that airshow, what everyones favorite warbird is, or postulating as to what aircraft would or wouldn't be in a hypothetical museum. Anyway, we all have our different goals and mine aren't right or wrong, just my interests. I have survived thus far although I just find myself checking WIX once or twice a day a day as opposed to what used to be 20 times per day and even skipping days here and there. The B-24 thread is what really got me seriously interested in WIX and posts like that are really I think the very best of what this site has to offer.

I am not a “pilot”, but have managed to successfully fly the Cessna 152, a King Air, and a Hercules C-130 (officially never happened) over the English Channel, and was at the time of my retirement from the Army, quite capable and proficient in flying the UH-1. What I would like to be able to see in here is your story, with photographs, about your aircraft (if you own one, or get to fly one). What drew you to aviation, what drew you to “your” aircraft? I was in Kansas a long time ago, and on the edge of this town I was in (no can’t remember), I virtually stumbled on a sod strip. Checking it out, I found several old aircraft sitting under some “hangars” that appeared to be something out of a flea market setting. As I walked down the row of dust covered airplanes, there sat a Twin Beech “Kansas” with the plexiglass nose. I would have given my eye teeth to have had a camera with me, and then being on a budget, I couldn’t afford a disposable from K-Mart. As I stood there looking at the old Kansas, I could only imagine what it would be like to sit in the cockpit of an old plane like that, and fire those radials up, the way they belch smoke and roar to life, taxi out, run up, and take off. The same way I used to think about being able to do the same thing in the B-25. Yeah, like that’s ever gonna happen. I found out from the “FBO” that the Kansas belonged to Kermit Weeks, it was stored there. I am thoroughly enjoying reading about the restoration of N5865V the PBJ that Dan Newcomb has been keeping us updated on, and would like to read about your adventure, with, or about, “Your” airplane.
