SBD at the NMNA

Tue Jan 15, 2008 2:10 am

Is there more than one SBD on display at the NMNA in Florida? Which one has the BuNu 2106. It is a survivor of Pealr harbor and Midway, and has a huge history.

There are three on display. 2106 is prominently displayed on
the Cabot deck.

Thanks, I can't wait to get down there.

MD, When there, don't forget to check out all five Wildcats as well.

I'm so very thankful that the NHC won't allow private recovery of historic aircraft. Can you just imagine the embarrassment of having fewer than five Wildcats (or three SBD's) on display in the same museum?

(Sorry all...ranting done for today)

Sometimes their rule is not understandable, but other times it is. They are the Naval Aviation Museum, why wouldn't they ahve several examples of the Wildcat and SBD. Does this mean that the CAF will have to get rid of some of their B-25's because the have too many?

Thank you Mustangdriver, thank you!! I get so tired of this battle.

What better place to have more than one example of a USN type?

To my knowledge, the CAF doesn't prevent other organizations from recovering B-25's or restoring them to airworthy condition.

The rule the navy museum has is in place for a reason. Now it is not always right, but they had to place it there because a few ruined it for everyone else. Once again why on earth wouldn't the Navy museum have more than one of the types in questions as they are telling and honoring different stories. The have been saved, and we should be thankful.
