WWII fighter pilot helmets

Mon Jan 14, 2008 10:49 pm

OK...I'm looking for a WWII "style" fighter pilot helmet for my "shrine".
I'm sure someone here can:
1) guide me to where I might find one
2) tell me what the "model number" is
3) have one they'd like to donate...(yeah, I'll hold my breath for this one. :shock: )

To get a WW2 era flight helmet you will ned to decide which air force you want to wear.. USAAF, RAF, Luftwaffe etc etc

USAF used A-11 and ANH-15 primarily, the ANH-15 was cloth summer wear and A-11 was leather fur lined winter wear. There are older models but not as useful. You can find small to X-large examples of both on ebay for $20 to $350 US varies.

RAF style helmets Type B and C go for around $100-300 US and the oxygen mask up to $900 US as some are ultra ultra rare.

Luftwaffe helmets are rare LK101 ? series but exisit can be hard to find tho.

So search ebay and decide to stop when your wallet does.

Actually, the A-11 is not fur lined. the lining is chamois. The sheepskin-lined helemet was the B-6. You are correct, there are earlier versions of helmets.

Mudge, I guess if you could post a photo of the one you like the looks of the best, there will plenty of people on WIX to help you find the right one.

I'm assuming you want a USAAF helmet due to your P-38 obsession, but there are Navy helemts that are available also.

Thanks for the info but I've decided that the cost of what I had in mind is a bit prohibitive at this time. I'll keep this info for future reference though.

Mudge;
The cost might be prohibitive, but if you know the type and size of helmet you are looking for, you might be able to TRADE for it!
You never know which WIX'er out there has excess stuff and that you might have exactly what he's looking for!
