If any of you model builders out there are just bored to tears and want to tinker with a quick and easy project (to be donated), I've got a cure for your boredom right here. :D

To help us with the planning of where to put various aircraft in our hangar when they come in for rotation, maintenance, post-Airsho stays, or whatever, I'm thinking about making a 1/72 scale hangar floor mock-up here in our office area with little 1/72 scale models of our fleet placed in the same way in which we'd stack the hangar. This would help us quite a bit when it came to reorganizing for the frequent hangar events or just daily activity that goes on here at the CAF main hangar in Midland. I've seen this very idea used at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, CA. I had a picture of it that I was wanting to show y'all as an example, but I've lost it.

Brandon (BDK), do you know the one I'm talking about? Any chance you could zap a picture of it and post it here for me?

Anyway, all I need is some very basic models that are 1/72 scale. Nothing fancy, just flat black painted airplanes is all we need as far as details go. I'll need at least one of each type airplane we operate, and two of some of our multiple types(I can submit a list of those airplanes if there is any interest in this project from y'all). If anyone is interested in helping me with this project, please feel free to e-mail me or respond with a post here on WIX. I will need to coordinate with each person that helps so that we don't end up with 200 B-29 models and only one of a Stearman. And remember, any donation made to the CAF is tax deductable. :)

Your thoughts?

Gary

A picture of what y'all have would be great. Thanks! I just want to give everyone a visual idea of what I'm talking about.

I will do so wen I get home. We have a replica plastic hangar, and all of the A/C inside all done in 1/72nd scale. This was done for each hangar.

We had a similar set up at Bob Pond's Planes of Fame East. I'll see if I have any shots of it when I get home. I have an unbuilt 1/72 Testors Corsair I'd be happy to build and send down.
I'm all about nothing fancy...

Okay then, it sounds like there's at least a little interest in this project. Below is a list of our aircraft (in no particular order) that we'd like to have models of. This list does NOT include all CAF aircraft, as we have some static displays or restorations that won't be coming to Midland in the near future.

Please be sure to contact me before building something, as we may have someone already building that same model.

AT-6/SNJ
P-51 Mustang
F-6F Hellcat (a model of one with wings folded, and one with wings extended)
Stinson L-5
P-40 Warhawk
T-50 Bamboo Bomber
B-25 Mitchell
C-131 (Convair 340)
PT-17 Stearman
C-45 (Beech 18 )
C-47
Hawker Sea Fury (one with wings folded, one with wings extended)
ME-108
Ryan PT-22
Stinson 105
A-26 Invader
B-24 Liberator (yeah, okay...a "D" model will be just fine  )
Focke Wolfe 44
BT-13
AN-2
Polikarpov I-16
C-60
PBY Catalina
JU-52
L-4 (Piper Cub)
L-3 (Aeronca)
PT-19, 23, or 26
TBM Avenger (one with wings folded, one with wings spread)
FI-156 (Fieschler Storch)
L-17 Navion
N3N
L-6 (Interstate Cadet)
P-47 Thunderbolt
B-29 Superfortress (WITH engines, please  )
C-46 Commando
U-3 (Cessna 310)
FM-2 Wildcat (one with wings folded, one with wings spread)
Stinson AT-19
P-63 King Cobra
P-39 Airacobra
T-28A Trojan
Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero

Thanks y'all,
Gary

I can definately do the B-24 and a Sea Fury with extended wings.

Tentatively put me down for these as i have to look through the collection...

A-26 (glass nose okay?)

L-5 (I have this old Beechnut vacform kit which I may be able to put together. If anyone knows which one i'm talking about and would be willing to tackle it i'll send it to you)

L-4 (IMO the kit seems a little small even though it claims to be 1/72)

There may be more. I'll check when I get home from work.

When would these be needed by?

If needed i'm pretty sure i've got an old Matchbox kit I could part with.

Okay y'all. I'll start making a list of who's sending what. I'll contact you via PM and/or e-mail regarding your donations.

Oh yeah, I somehow skipped the Helldiver. One of them with the wings folded, one with the wings spread.

And I'll need two little 1/72 scale hangar cats.....in the sleeping position.

Gary,

I can build up a C-45 for you (using the Pioneer 2 kit, for those who care). How soon do you need it? Gear up, or gear down? (I'm assuming gear down)

Good luck finding some of those subjects in 1/72 scale. I have a C-131, but it's in some weird-azz "box scale".

Suggestion: Post a sign-up page somewhere on the internet so that folks can see what's being handled and what's still available.

Cheers!
