A friend of mine travels extensively, and was given photos of this aircraft while traveling through Yugoslavia, from someone who said it was on display at a "castle in Albania." He asked me what I could find. I figured it was a repainted P-80 from God knows where. That link is what I found.
Turns out it's a T-33, S/N 51-04413. The aircraft has suffered considerably since those pictures were taken (I don't have permission to post the ones I've got. The plane is considerably more weathered now.) The official story is that the plane was forced down in Dec. 1957 after the pilot became "lost" and was "low on fuel." Anyone have any further information on this aircraft, or the fate of its crew?
The aircraft is located in Gjirokastër, Albania. The word "Gjirokastër" is worth approximately 385,612 points in scrabble.
