Great photos Jack...I especially like the aerial view. There is little to be recognized today of that scene...even the layout of Henderson Field has changed. I believe that the stream above the strip might be the Lunga River. Fighter Two was constructed much later in the campaign here.
In case anybody is interested, there is the remains of a P-38 at Vilu Museum out toward Cape Esperance. The skin is pretty much gone after sitting outdoors near the ocean for over 60 years, but it is fairly complete with both Allisons.
