I have in the past heard rumours of surviving P-40Q parts and wreckage from that one that crashed around 46/47 whilst air racing.

Has anyone else heard similar rumours?

I inquired as to the fates of the 3 P-40Q's about a month ago. While one is known to have crashed during a air race, there is so far no recorded trace of the other 2. I check with several places but with no success. My next step will be to contact the national archives and try to determine the truth. I can't tell you for sure but i would be willing to guess that the Air Race "Q" more than likely was scrapped. But maybe one of the other 2 were dismanteled, tucked away and stored in obscurity waiting for time to tick away and a lucky individual to find it. Would be nice. I'll let you know if I find anything.
