F-117A to NASM in Spring?

Sat Feb 02, 2008 10:21 am

The other day I read an article (can't remember where it was) on the retirement of the F-117A from service (I guess that's when it official becomes a "warbird", right? ). The article said that NASM was going to get one.

I recall that there are a number of members here who work/volunteer at the Museum. Does anyone have any additional information on this: what bird is going to NASM (I'd presume they'd fly into Dulles for display at Udvar-Hazy) and when it is due to show up?

Two reasons why I ask: First is that I'm a member of the Northern Virginia IPMS club, and we are usually invited to display our models at the Udvar-Hazy "Become a Pilot Day" in June. If the F-117A is going to be at the Museum then, I'd like to build a model of it for the display. But I'll need to know which specific aircraft it'll be (my hope is for the 49th Wing CO's bird), and have enough lead-time to get it done.

Second, I'd like to attend the fly-in, if it'll be open to the public. I was fortunate enough to attend the fly-in for the Global Flyer, which included getting to meet Steve Fossett.

Many thanks!
