museum visits???

Ok I got some questions for you guys. Now dont go flaming me right off the bat but I am just wondering if I am not the only one feeling this way.

I had read the thread on Memphis Belle and tho I think it would be neat to see her on how she looked after those 25 missions. I am just glad that she is not in Memphis anymore. But my reason for posting is my visit to Warner Robbins Museum. It has come a long way since I was there in the early 80's but I had to wonder about a few things.

1.) I am a mechanic and I love old airplanes. But I found myself looking more at the condition than the airplane as a whole. Anyone else feel this way??? Example, I was looking at the mustang and liked how it was in a Hangar setting. I personally thought that she should have been opened up a bit (un cowl'd) would have been nice. But then closer look at the airplane and it looks pretty patched together, even the posibility of bondo in locations. So I guess everything cant be perfect.

2.) Another item I noticed, there F-84 is indoors but its painted silver. Along with the B-25 and B-29. Now the day I went, I found the B-25, B-29 and F-86 outside. Guess they had a event there but the B-29 is not pictured like it is here on the wix site. She is outside and partially uncowled and the outer wing panels have been removed, ( I think to get it out of the hangar).

I would have figured that if the airplane was to be in a air conditioned inviroment, that they would take them back to bare metal and save the paint and money for the stuff still destined to be displayed outside.

I guess I was spoiled due to my last museum visit was the Dayton museum. I know they cant do everything but it was topped all off when I informed the museum staff that the B-25 was missing tape over the large hole where the Nose .50 would be and is probably getting rain water inside. I got the "they know about it" and felt blown off...... I wish I had some speed tape with me, I would have done it myself.
