Tucker Car/Better airplanes?

Wed Feb 20, 2008 1:24 pm

Too bad about the Tucker car there, but sarcastically "You just can't let "progress" get in the way of capitolism."

It's sad when a better car is cancelled and replaced with an inferior one. Just like the video from the other Tucker thread about the car, that in 2006 the electric car was cancelled. Luckily it seems to be making a come-back... aided by better battery technology.

Are there many cases of inferior aircraft beating out better airplanes in the aviation world? I think I remember hearing that the C-17 was the winner in a situation like that. And of course Canada's ability to pick military hardware is greatly influenced by where the machines are built and which lobbiest get along best with the gov't. For instance anything Bombardier, and of course the Cormorant helicopter.

Anybody else have stories of better planes getting cancelled and inferior planes taking their spot?

Cheers,

David

Some will argue that is what happened with the F-18 replacing the F-14.

Malo83,

I'm unfamiliar with the Intruder story. What exactly occurred?
