I don't know what kind of scan they did, but it sure would be neat if the metal was actually a Luftwaffe aircraft, rather than gold or silver. Especially since the coordinates came from the notebook of a Luftwaffe radio operator.

Unless there are no living witnesses to the act, I firmly believe that if anything worth anything to anyone is buried or otherwise hidden "out there" somewhere, it will be soon dug-up/uncovered by someone who gets wind of it.

There are of course exceptions, but a large stash of gold and silver would be hard to resist to anyone who got wind of it.

Having said that I am very interested to see what comes out of this!

P.S. not sure if the "amber room" is down there, though. It seems pretty certain that the Russians salvaged it from the Wilhelm Gustloff, and it is indeed the original that is currently on display. At least that's what I saw on tv, so it must be true :D

I thought it was a German made replica?
The Wilhelm Gustloff is a maritime wargrave, infact probably the biggest from WW2 :idea:
