The Coast Defense Study Group made a trip to Galveston, Texas this weekend and I thought maybe some of you would like to see these pics, Fort Travis, Crockett and San Jacinto. Coast Artillery in Texas. I also went to the Lone Star Museum what a nice collection they have. I will post some pics tomorrow from there.

I was down there all day working on some things for our airshow in April. Wish I would have known you were going to be there...I could have shown you around the place!

Thanks for posting, some I've seen since I was a small child. Others I knew about but have never seen details. I've seen the remnants of San Jacinto but never trekked across to it. Until a grass fire several years ago I would bet that you guys wouldn't have been able to get to it. I had no idea the interior spaces of Travis were so well preserved. Thanks again. Too bad you didn't let me know you were coming, I would have been happy to ya'll a quick runthrough of the Collings aircraft that we have at Ellington, you drove right by us on your way to and from Galveston.

Thanks for posting this. I had seen the one below the Hotel in passing several times in my youth. Never was aware of how some sections of the fortifications were incorporated into the seawall.
Seacoast fortifications have always interested me - been to Ft Sumter, Ft Moultrie, Ft Pulaski, Ft Jackson (Savannah), Tybee Island, Ft DeSoto, Ft Pickens, Ft Barrancas, Barrancas Redoubt, Ft Morgan and Ft Gaines. I'll use your pics on the CDSG site for a bit of a guided tour when we make our way back to Galveston.
