Warbird Information Exchange

I may be going to Luxemburg soon. Are there any warbird attractions in the general vicinity? I haven't decided if I'm going to fly through Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris or London where I might spend a Saturday afternoon / Sunday morning, what are the warbird opportunities (I've been to Hendon)? I have to be a good steward of my company's money, but hopefully I'll be able to take a warbird museum or two. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

If you're confined to only London in the UK, then you could try the Imperial War Museum at Lambeth http://london.iwm.org.uk/, this page covers the aircraft on display http://london.iwm.org.uk/server/show/ConWebDoc.1470, as does this http://www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/iwm.html, but there is so much more there to see other than aircraft.

Both museums could be visited in one day, more so if you're only there for the aircraft.

If you can get out of London, then you MUST visit the Imperial War Museum outstation at Duxford, http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/

Why not pop over to the FlyPast Historic Forum http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=4? If you post the same question over there, you'll get lots of feedback, and maybe a few more ideas, plus I'm sure people will put up some of their excellent photos to give you a taster.

Being a "good steward of my company's money" means that I will be in London. Lack of available vacation means I only have the Saturday after I arrive early in the morning. I'll probably go back to Hendon. My photography skills have improved tremendously since 1996 and it looks like the best bet to help populate my website with types not available over here. My 1996 pics are pretty horrible. As a major conicidence, I got Hendon photo advice from Robbo a few days ago. This trip, my second across the pond, came up a day or two after that

I'm sure it would be overly optimistic to hit the IWM also on this visit, but I will keep it as an option. I plan to drag my family over for a summer visit sometime in the next few years. They would probably appreciate IWM more than Hendon, so I can catch it then. Of course, any UK vacation WILL coincide with a Duxford Airshow!

In Paris, there's the Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace at le Bourget, on the outskirts. Well worth a visit.

I should be at Hendon late morning or early afternoon on Sat, Dec 11. I plan to get there as soon as I can after dropping my bags at my hotel.

I'd be happy to meet any UK enthusiasts, just don't expect too much. Compared to the regular posters on this amazing site, my knowledge and experience is limited. I mostly lurk and learn. However, I have a strong interest in planes, especially WWII, and like to take pictures of them. If anyone wants to say hello, look for a bald, plump, nearsighted middle age guy probably wearing a photo vest and toting a tripod.

I can't make the 12th myself, sorry.
