Bob's F2G is registered with the FAA as serial number 88457. The WIX Corsair listing indicates 88457 was "Crashed and destroyed in fatal accident during race." Now we all know you can rebuild anything BUT the WIX shows pics of Bob's F2G and a serial number of 88458. Scott, can you explain the phrase "Assumed identity of Bu. 88457". And where is 88458? If its not real metal, where's the paperwork?? Not only are we missing the "destroyed" airframe, but the registration/paperwork would belong to someone, registered or not.

The aircraft "identity" for Race 57 is that of the crashed corsair. From what I understand, Cook Cleland, only had permission from the Navy to fly the three F2G's he initially received from them. The other aircraft (what is Race 57) was acquired as a spares ship. The paperwork was simply transfered over when Jenazzo crashed. I'm not sure whether it was to get around the Navy, or just that it was a whole lot less paperwork. Not sure if this helps, but there you are.
