This photo appears to have been reverse developed. It was taken at Maupertus, France, near Cherbourg in July 1944. Dad had an oil leak during the mission, as you can see the Crew Chief has removed the lower cowling.

You know, I think my Dad is pretty cool, if for no other reason than well... he is my Dad! But to have your Dad fly Mustangs in the War? That's pretty neat!

Just kidding... 8) If I could ever be 50% of my Dad or our Dad's, we'd all consider ourselves lucky and successful!

Hey, how about a thread "Post photos of your Dad"?

WOW :D Thanks Martin. That is the first time I have seen that pic the way it should be. :D I need to take my copy to a photo shop I get it redone. Maby then I can see what the aircraft info on the side reads.

well Robbie, I'd be most interested in any readings, even if only parts.... because it could ID the P-51D your dad was assigned...

can you possibly enlighten me with some details as to your dad's tour of duty ? (PM please)

when looking at the photo, it appears to be A P-51D-5-NA or early -10-NA, judging from the round gun camera port (on later a/c, this port was square). Also it carries D-day stripes on the lower wing surfaces, so the photo definitely is Summer 1944

an educated guess is P-51D-5-NA 44-13774 - Special Proj. No. 92742R - which is reported as assigned to Patrick H. Henry, individual a/c letter not known, with which he went missing on 10th August 1944, MACR # 8012 - Henry evaded capture after crashlanding in France
