Now I wish that replica Helldiver that was on the Intrepid wasn't sunk.

I have a WWII ID model of the float equipped Helldiver.

From Curtiss Aircraft 1907-1947 by Peter M Bowers, 1987, pages 426-427. FYI, Randy.

"XSB2C-2 (Model 84C) - Before the XSB2C-1 flew, the Navy became interested in a twin-float seaplane version and planned to fit newly-designed Edo floats to the prototype late in its test programme. A total of 350 SB2C-1 seaplanes (Curtiss Model 84D) was planned. Destruction of the prototype postponed the seaplane tests, which were finally made with the fifth production SB2C-1, 00005. By the time the tests were completed, Navy interest in combat seaplanes had passed and the production order was cancelled.
The XSB2C-2 did contribute to Helldiver development, however. It was the test vehicle for the new free-moving gun mount with two .30 calibre guns in place of the previous power-driven .50s."

That used one of the float equipped SB2C's out of Newport, RI on Narraganset Bay chasing down torpedoes during testing.
