in the mid 90's there was one powered by the ASH that was a regular attender to Breckenrige Tx. It was at that time owned by Don Talley from Longview? and was in single seat configuration and in winter white with red stars. Also I spoke with a Gentleman a couple of years ago about a project that was ASH powered that was 50% done. I know only of the others in England and Europe.

A friend of mine is finishing up a Yak 11 here in Kansas City, and it should make it's first flight in the next couple of months. It's powered by an 1830, as my friend sold the original engine to Kermit Weeks.

I went t school with Don Talley's daughter and made frequent stops by the shop in Longview (my home town) where he was having it restored. Talley became a regular fixture over town during the time when he was racking up hours in his AT-6.

He had the Yak restored in single seat configuration, turning the forward cockpit into a faired-over baggage area. He had two Ash engines on site at his fabricator's residence, keeping the second one as a back-up.

The last I head is that the Yak was sold, and the new owner pranged it pretty good on landing. I'm not sure whether the new owner even survived the crash. I've always hoped someone else might have more info on this as I've since lost contact with Talley.

Hey,
I have never seen a Yak-11 with the original engine installed anywhere here in the U.S. (But i dont venture west often)
We had breakfast two weeks ago with the owner/pilot of an 1830/3 blade (B-24) combination. I have also taken some great pics of Dan McCue's R-2000 powered Yak about 8 years ago

Does the Airplane I saw at Flying Legends a few years back have an ASH engine?

I don't know if it still has the original engine, but in August of 1992 I photographed a Yak 11 (N9YK), and the owner told me it had an original Soviet engine in it. I'm not an engine guy, so I didn't look at it closely, but the plane had a two-bladed prop on it. This might be the same plane Rob Mears and soko121 mentioned in their post, as it was overall white, red markings and is a single seater..............Roger

That's the plane Roger. It made a very distinctive sound when flying overhead. It will be interesting to find out what became of it.

Even more interesting was the way it was started, by air. I miss taking to Don and Martin Thedford, his partner on the T-6. Great people! Martin gave me my first T-6 ride at the First Midland Airshow.

Cheers,

Lynn
