Jet Warbirds Tonight (Wed.) on National Geographic Channel

Tonight the National Geographic Channel is showing the one hour special on jet warbirds. I haven't seen it, but my formation group taped a segment for this show last summer. Also featured are Bob Lutz of Chrysler with his planes and cars, Larry Salganek in Santa Fe with the MiG-15 and I believe T-33, the guys in South Africa with the English Lightning and Buccaneer, and a fellow in Seattle with a Cobra Gunship.

Don't blame me for the title, I didn't choose it.

"Tycoon Toys-Jet Warbirds" 10pm Eastern/9pm Central on National Geographic Channel-276 on DirecTV and also on many cable systems.

Great show, good job dude. I assume that was you talking in the L-39 segment, again good job. The Buccaneer segments and the Starfighter segements, darn, who woulda figured these cats would be able to do this. Thats cool. I personally think its the wave of the future in warbirdology.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I was the old guy in the middle.

Actually I was pretty easy to spot, as I had the only desert camo L-39, and I'm the only one with a yellow flight helmet. At least my wife could find me.

I really liked the segments on Thunder City and the F-104, although I had to promise Mrs. P that I had no interest in buying one.

Steve I think you would look good in either another British Navy bird, the Seahawk, or a nice American Navy bird. Does a TA-4J suit your needs?

What do ya think? Two seats, gorgeous airplane, hot performance, easy on gas, and the Sea Fury doesn't have to fly full power to hang with it.

I think Steve would look great flying around in a nice Two Seat Cougar or Panther he needs to get some US Naval Aircraft

Next is the MiG-17F. It's been in restoration for the last year and is just about ready. John Penney is signed on to conduct the FCFs and check me out in the MiG-15UTI next Spring.

How did you find out about this show? I am the guy from Seattle in the Cobra. I always wondered how the footage came out. When will it be on again?

I found out from Steve, and luck. I was surfing and rich boys toys Tanks was on, right after was Jets. The Cobra shots came out great, especially coming out from the trees, very cool.

I gotta know mustangpilot, how when where did you score a Cobra. I didn't know anyone had one. At the very least, I wouldn't have thought there was an airworthy one outside of the military. There was/is that heavy lifter one for sale, but a straight up Cobra, thats cool.

The National Geographic Channel will be repeating the show on 12/19 at 4:00 PM, 12/20 at 9:00 PM and midnight, 12/22 at 5:00 PM, 12/23 at 2:00PM, and 12/25 at 3:00PM. These times are all Eastern and are all according to my Tivo, so are subject to change!

As for the show, I was contacted by the Production Company in London after they learned I was in an L-39 formation team. Apparently they got my information from the CJAA website. We filmed last June in Battle Creek, as Bob Lutz was filming in Willow Run the day before and it helped with everyone's schedule. An interesting side note, the next day after the crew filmed Bob Lutz they realized that no one had mounted a camera looking straight ahead. As the cloud cover the next day was about the same as the day before Paul Wood, from the Hoppers, went up and filmed Bob's aileron and 4 point rolls. Paul says Bob owes him a beer for making him look so good.

The cobra footage came out very well. I especially liked the shots looking down on the Cobra while hovering in the trees. Very cool.

And as for my MiG-17, I haven't got a clue how I'm going to paint it. Some days I like the silver, other days black. Some days Soviet stars, other days original Polish checkerboard. Guess we'll all be surprised next summer. I'll probably have it at Oshkosh.
